INSECTS
Here are my insect sculptures in chronological order. The sculptures are not designed to be models of the original organisms but to capture some of those features that help us to recognise them. The sculpures are intended for outdoor display and most of the following photos reflect that by being taken in a garden setting rather than in a studio.
My first and very much experimental insect sculpture. I decided that this method of construction did not capture what I wanted and did not follow it up with more pieces of this type.
Body forged from sheet steel and legs cut from recycled RSJ. Naturally rusted then engraved sprayed with a neutral lacquer.
Made from mild steel sheet and recycled rod. Heat treated to get colour then sprayed with oil for protection.
