Peter Annis:  Steel Sculpture

Bio

Professionally I am a zoologist specializing in entomology (the study of insects). I studied welded sculpture part time at ANU VAA with Geoff Farquhar-Still. I have specialized in sculptures of animal forms. These have been exhibited over several years in group shows in and around Canberra (M16 and SciArt ), Sculpture in the Paddock (Yass) and at Sculpture at Hillview 2014 & 2016. Sales and commissions have been made to private collections in Sydney, Southern Highlands, Canberra and Hobart.

Artist Statement

The majority of my sculptures are made of forged and welded mild steel. That means that due to the limitations of the material and of the technique available to work it pieces cannot be an exact model of the originals but they are designed to capture those features that make them recognisable. My sculptures are nearly all of animals, usually but not exclusively, insects and other invertebrates.
